Sara Egelston Akers founded Plano Children's Theatre in 1991 with the dream of creating a place where all youth feel safe to develop and define character skills that help them become better citizens, while experiencing the magic of the theatre.  Through Sara's dedication and passion for accessibility to performing arts experiences combined with character-building programming for youth, Plano Children's Theatre grew to become North Texas Performing Arts-the largest youth performing arts program in the country!

On average, North Texas Performing Arts awards at least one needs-based scholarship per production to a talented and deserving performer.  In 2022, NTPA will produce 170 shows, with the potential of awarding almost $65,000 in needs-based scholarships alone.  The Sara Egelston Akers Legacy Fund will provide support for NTPA's needs-based scholarships, enabling youth from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels to have access to the best-in-class performing arts experiences provided by North Texas Performing Arts.  Additionally, contributions to the Legacy Fund will help ensure that Sara's legacy continues for years to come.
